FAQ

Known limitations

  • Import and sync “videos and GIFs” slide content from PowerPoint/Google Slides/PDF is currently unsupported.
  • Animations and slide transitions cannot be imported from PowerPoint/Google Slides either 🙁
Supported video formats and codecs

LibMPV is the video playback engine we use, which should support all major video formats.

Importing Google Slides is blurry?

Do this before exporting:

In Google Slides > File > Page Setup > Change from ‘Widescreen 6:9’ to 1920 x 1080 Pixels

Do animations, transitions, and embedded videos/gifs import from PowerPoint / Google Slides?

Nope 🙁

Workaround: manually add videos into the item.

Can I import Canva slides into VisionScreens?

The best way is to export your slides from Canva as PDF.

You can then import the PDF into VisionScreens.

A sync integration with Canva is not possible at this time. [Take note my friends who work at Canva].

System requirements

Windows

Minimum requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11
  • Intel Core CPU, Generation 8 or better (i.e. a CPU from 2019 onwards should be adequate)
  • You currently need PowerPoint installed to import PPTX files.
Tip! If you didn’t know already, registered non-profit organisations (including churches) are eligible to apply for tech donations including Microsoft 365. See Tech Donations on my wiki.

NDI

  • If you will be using NDI to stream outputs, this is a CPU intensive task so you will benefit from a strong multi-core CPU. e.g. for laptops, Intel Gen 8 H series.
  • Alternatively, if you have a NVIDIA GPU you can also take advantage of NDI® Screen Capture HX to easily capture computer video into your livestream. Any low-mid tier NVIDIA chip from say 2014+ is workable for this.

Tips

  • In Windows 10/11 graphics settings, set the graphics processor to ‘High performance‘ for the VisionScreens app.

Mac

Because developing for Mac is completely new to me, I haven’t written this section yet! YMMV
I’ll get around to testing on an old Mac Mini at some point…

Will there be a macOS version?

As of 2024, yes this is on the roadmap! But my priority is currently Windows.
